AntiX 12 IBM M41 Boot error Made a base iso cd. Cd is good because it booted on my other computer. Error message was Code: 61.692002] INFO: rcu_sched self-detected stall on CPU { 0} (t=15000 jiffies) In all my experience running AntiX through the years. That is a new one on me. Not to be easily deterred. I grabbed my PLOP floppy disk and my AntiX full iso usb. Just in case it was a dvd drive problem. Anyhows, I got the usb to boot and get me to a Icewm desktop. I'm thinking, cool. Problem solved. Partitioned and installed next to Windows XP. Rebooted after install. Drank another beer to celebrate my triumph. Grub came up on reboot. Picked Antix. Ouch. This is the error on the screen now. It is longer because I am typing this in a text document on my other computer so it has been sitting longer trying to boot.
INFO: rcu_sched self detected stall on CPU { 0} (t=6003 jiffies) 421.76001] INFO: rcu_sched self detected stall on CPU { 0} {t=105006 jiffies)
Then the same error code but with 601.728001] at the beginning and (t=15009 jiffies) at the end and those numerical values go up as time passes ,(Takes about 60 seconds or more to repeat again), but the main meat of error message stays the same. Same durn error message as the base iso cd bootup but now it is installed to internal hard drive. So my dvd drive is not at fault because I can boot Puppy Linux in it OK (it was how I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst). No problems with hard drive either on the Windows XP side. Plus everything was smooth as silk during install as far as hardware and install process went. By the way. I used to run AntiX 8.2 on this rig but I gave the rig to a senior citizen for over a year and got it back because they ran into financial difficulties and told me to come and pick it back up because they were getting out of using a computer. That is why I put XP on it before I gave it to them. Everything else runs OK. Like I said. I even posted in the chatbox yesterday while running live usb. Never seen this kind of error in all my years of using linux or AntiX. As always. Md5sum checks and slow burn was done also. I can boot a Puppy Cd later and post /boot/grub/menu.lst also. Read this at kernel.org but it is over this bikers head. Maybe the "stall on CPU { 0}" should read , stall on CPU { 1}. But I don't know. http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation ... llwarn.txtThis is the search term I used in google linkHappy Trails , Rok

Hi roky, either the box doesn't like the kernel or your hardware is playing up. Could you try an older antiX-12 (if you have one or even antiX-11) just to see if the kernel is the issue.

This is AntiX 11 patched RC3 installed via CD on my DVD drive. So DVD drive is OK. Install went OK smooth as silk. No kernel or boot hiccups. Just a note. Before I installed AntiX 11. I tried a boot cheat code to try and get rid of cpu error message, (kinda a wild guess on my part). But, it had no effect on AntiX 12 install boot up. So it, (IBM M41 Desktop), is definitely picky about the new AntiX 12 kernel like the Emachine 3407 was that I have AntiX 11 Base installed long ago with a Liqourix 2.6.38 kernel (that was as high as I could go with the Emachine 3407 . I got "/dev waiting to be populated" forever on that Desktop computer with newer kernels). Hope the info helps anyone with one of these Attachment:

Ha Ha, I just went into /boot/grub/menu.lst figuring I had to edit Windows XP grub entry Like I did in AntiX 12. It was not needed though. I have not touched/edited this. Code: timeout 10 color cyan/blue white/blue foreground ffffff background 0639a1

Just booted a live cd of Code: # inxi -Fxz System: Host: puppypc7254 Kernel: 3.2.18 i686 (32 bit, gcc: 4.6.3) Desktop: Enlightenment 0.16.999.71440 Distro: macpup Linux Linux 3.2.18 [i686 arch] Machine: System: IBM product: 679421U Mobo: IBM model: IBM Bios: IBM version: 20KT46AUS date: 06/04/2004 CPU: Single core (Intel Pentium 4 CPU,1793.990,256 KB,fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm up pebs bts,3589.47,intel) (-UP-) cache: unknown flags: (-) bmips: Not Available clocked at MHz Graphics: Card: NVIDIA NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] bus-ID: 01:00.0 X.org: 1.11.3 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) tty size: 80x24 Advanced Data: N/A for root Audio: Card: Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller driver: snd_intel8x0 ports: 1c00 1880 bus-ID: 00:1f.5 Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: 1.0.24 Network: Card: Intel 82801BA/BAM/CA/CAM Ethernet Controller driver: e100 ver: 3.5.24-k2-NAPI port: 2000 bus-ID: 02:08.0 IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Drives: HDD Total Size: (60.1GB,-) () 1: id: /dev/sda model: SAMSUNG_SV6003H size: 60.1GB Partition: ID: swap-1 size: 0.81GB used: 0.00GB (0%) fs: swap RAID: No RAID devices detected - /proc/mdstat and md_mod kernel raid module present Sensors: None detected - is lm-sensors installed and configured? which uses a 3.2 pae kernel. Runs Ok to post with. I have 1 extra 2gig ide or 1 extra 40 gig ide 3.5 hard drive I could slap in the other bay and see later if it installs ok. I don't want to mess with /dev/sda anymore if possible.

Took me all day to get dual ide hard drives to get recognized in bios. Found that the Desktop had been dropped maybe. Bios even started acting up (just staying frozen at power on state ,press F1 or F12 ). Took me awhile also to get the 40 gig ide to format from being a unrecognized drive in gparted with a warning triangle. Plus other issues cleaning up cables and internals. But I finally got it triple booting on 2 separate Hard drives. Right now it boots Antix 11 and XP on the 60 gig drive. I have Macpup 529 installed frugally on the 40gig drive. All booting through AntiX grub. Quote: I don't want to mess with /dev/sda anymore if possible. Famous last words because I had to pull the drive and move it to secondary bay and move 40 gig to the primary bay that the 60 gig was sitting in. Then went into jumper and cable hell. This desktop plumb wore me out. Don't tell me to buy a newer computer. I have enough hardware for a computer using biker. I am just a stubborn cuss that hates being bested by anything. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=647801#647801So a installed Kernel: 3.2.18 i686 does boot up and work on this Desktop after install. Funny thing was. The AntiX 12 live cd ran OK and booted up with the 3.5 kernel live. But after install was when the trouble began. So being tired, I am confused because base iso cd gives error right from boot of live cd but full does not and md5sum is good and base boots on other machine. Maybe Semplice Linux may be next on this experiment or Crunchbang. But not today.

Well, after putting in the 40gig drive. XP blue screens and won't fix. I tried chkdsk, recovery mode in Windows. XP is so dumb. Gonna blow it away. But first I installed beside partition in macpup on sdb2 Code: # inxi -Fxz Resuming in non X mode: glxinfo not found. For package install advice run: inxi --recommends System: Host: biker Kernel: 3.2.0-3-486 i686 (32 bit, gcc: 4.6.3) Desktop: Openbox 3.5.0 Distro: Semplice 2.0.4 emily Machine: System: IBM product: 679421U Mobo: IBM model: IBM Bios: IBM version: 20KT46AUS date: 06/ 04/ 2004 CPU: Single core Intel Pentium 4 CPU (-UP-) cache: 256 KB flags: (sse sse2) bmips: 3588.85 clocked at 1794.429 MHz Graphics: Card: NVIDIA NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] bus-ID: 01:00.0 X.org: 1.12.3 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) tty size: 80x24 Advanced Data: N/ A for root Audio: Card: Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller driver: snd_intel8x0 ports: 1c00 1840 bus-ID: 00:1f.5 Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: 1.0.24 Network: Card: Intel 82801BA/ BAM/ CA/ CAM Ethernet Controller driver: e100 ver: 3.5.24-k2-NAPI port: 2000 bus-ID: 02:08.0 IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Drives: HDD Total Size: 100.1GB (-) 1: id: / dev/sda model: SAMSUNG_SV6003H size: 60.1GB 2: id: / dev/sdb model: IC35L040AVVA07 size: 40.0GB Partition: ID: / size: 27G used: 2.3G (9%) fs: ext3 Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 28.0C mobo: N/ A Fan Speeds (in rpm): cpu: N/A Info: Processes: 113 Uptime: 31 min Memory: 431.3/1136.6MB Runlevel: 2 Gcc sys: 4.7.1 Client: Shell inxi: 1.8.14 root@biker:/ home/harry# cat / etc/issue Debian GNU/ Linux wheezy/ sid \n \l
Pretty much a fresh install. I think I'll keep this one on here for a while. Pretty sparse distro. I needed gawk installed to run inxi in it. I was going to run smxi in My Antix 11 install and try some kernels, But. My internet connection drops out all the time now (static in phone lines). So that is on the back burner for now, It took me multiple tries of downloading Semplice before I got a good one/iso because of my flaky connection. As you can see. Kernel 3x is working on this install also.

I am doing this because it was easier for me to refer to a responce I made in another thread and I used my post to grab the info. AntiX 12 pretest demanded MBR to install grub to sda and not root folder so I had to go that route. I haven't rebooted yet to see if my edits are any good yet. So crosses fingers. Edit: Quote: I haven't rebooted yet to see if my edits are any good yet. So crosses fingers. Everything works good.

roky, so it seems the 3.5 kernel is the issue. Keep the 3.3.5 one, install the 3.5.0 or even the latest 3.5.2 and see if it boots.

First I figured I better do a apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade first which I just finished. I got a bunch of error codes. I am uploading a text file with relevant errors and what I tried to do to fix the errors. But no joy so far. I won't reboot until figure out how to fix these errors. Code: Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/acpi-fakekey_0.140-5_i386.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/x11-common_1%3a7.7+1_all.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/irqbalance_1.0.3-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Relevant notes are in the .targz below.

roky delete the pre-removal scripts of the troblesome .debs in /var/lib/dpkg/info
eg prerm for acpi-fakekey
Before that see if you can purge the troublecome debs

Quote: See if you can purge the offending debs I tried purging irqbalance and acpi-fakekey Anti. But I am crashing the scooter on every turn. I am scared of purging x11-common because it looks like it will unistall the whole system. So I will delete the Quote: delete the pre-removal scripts of the troblesome .debs in /var/lib/dpkg/info and try and reinstall acpi-fakekey and irqbalance and x11-common and apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade again I guess.

Ok, go to /var/lib/dpkg/info and remove the prerm for acpi-fakekey then do apt-get -f install.
That should at least install acpi-fakekey.
Then do the same tith the other debs that give error.
