Life would be a lot easier if more information was included in the screenshots at customize.org. Even more helpful when extras are included (such as malanrich's theme - the wall and style were included, but that's because it's from freshmeat). Oh well. The best I can do is find a nice screenshot and try and emulate it. I will probably get tired of my current theme - It's a bit dark for my taste, so I will need to go back to square one. Fortunately, a lot of styles at freshmeat include a wall. And I can do some simple mods to styles. (My next project is to do a port of a openbox clearlooks style - it matches the clearlooks skin of xmms since the fluxbox style doesn't fit.) Anyway, I could go on forever with my trials and tribulations over this. Thanks for lending an ear...

I think it was Thoreau (maybe Emerson) who said something like this about education: "Which 'me' do you plan to teach today, and which 'me' do you plan to ignore?" (Probably misquoting, and probably someone else, like Ginsberg).

The point is the same with wallpaper and themes; I'm a different "me" on different occasions, especially when doing different things with the computer. In fact, one of the great things about getting out of the Windows world was being exposed to so *many* other ways of doing things--and thinking about things--from other Linux-users. And, for me at least, radically different themes and wallpapers have been one way of getting jolted into other mindsets. (Yes, I'm that impressionable.)

ON THE OTHER HAND. Searching for the perfect theme is like jumping from wife to wife. You have to find the one that speaks to your soul and then grapple her to your breast with hoops of steel.

Wow, someone voted for gnome. Then maybe I'll take a look at the "clearlooks" styles at customize.org. Also, I've been looking around freshmeat and found and xfce style theme and some bluecurve themes. I think these are doable. I still can't get into the mac themes.

Since most of the people polled so far want maybe something original, then after searching around freshmeat I found this

Here's a screenshot

For the people who dig gnome:

http://customize.org/fluxbox/themes/44210

The above link is for a trio of very nice clearlooks styles. If you install the clearlooks engine from the repo, you'll have a nice little theme. You should be able to find gnome-ish winamp/xmms skins as well as mplayer skins.

Well, if you're someone who wants to have the look/feel of another os (mac, beos, win32, fedora, etc.), then there's plenty of choices at freshmeat and customize.org. But if you want something a little different, here's an elegant theme I found at customize. It's made up of a gtk2 theme, fb style, and xmms skin. Just go to www.customize.org and search for elfin2. You won't be disappointed. Here's a screenshot.

Well, I noticed that my themes are either win32, gnome, mac, or some sort of dark theme (in fact, most of themes I see while browsing fall into these categories). I don't really have a blue theme (but there are a ton to choose from) - yet. So while browsing at www.customize.org, I found a style (reuben), gtk2 theme (reuben), wall (jazz), and a nice winamp2 skin (aesthetic groove - there are 4 flavors but #1 fits best). This theme is decidedly different. Nice and brown - ups would be proud.

I have a tendency to change my desktop (Themes, papers, gtk etc) a lot, but i do have some preferences, even among the choices i make. :)

1: I really wish that there were fluxbox themes that looked as good as the OpenBox ones! LOL!! I know i could use OpenBox, and sometimes i do, but i really like fluxbox..... i just think that, on the whole, the OpenBox themes are a lot nicer looking. The right click menu in particular is almost always good looking (as well really functional) in OpenBox.

2: I quite like the dark, glassy type of theme. That's one of the reasons that i find TinyMe (& PCLOS in general) so attractive..... they just look really good.

3: Wallpapers - It's so personal that i think it's hard to please everyone, and i generally find that, whatever distro i'm using, i'll almost always change the wallpaper.

4: Rounded Corners - Not really fussed either way, if a theme looks good, it looks good, no matter whether the corners are rounded or squared.

Can't think of anything else at the moment, but i'm sure something else will crop up soon! :)
