Testers for remaster script needed.

Testers for remaster script needed.

Postby anticapitalista on Sat Jul 26, 2008 11:26 pm

From antiX-M7.2 to antiX-M7.5 a remaster script was installed (for those who didn't find it it is in /usr/local/bin).
It was pretty basic, but it did enable users to remaster from a livecd environment, not from an installed antiX to hard drive.

Adrian has been working on the script and it is much better and you can now use it from livecd to remaster an existing antiX partition.
It still needs work, as it needs testers. It will not mess up your pride and joy antiX install, so anyone who wishes to try this out, please do and post here or on MepisLovers.

Here is a link to the script:

For clarity.

Do you mean I can make a live/install disc out of my installed system, just as it's set up now?

Yes you can/will be able to.

I managed to do it, a bit long winded at the moment, but Adrian is working on implementing the changes into the script. At the moment, as the script is, it doesn't work properly. Hopefully the final successful version will be included in final antiX-M7.5

See my post on the second link above.

It will remaster the cd. I used it for that. Anti. do you need to have the stable version of squashfs-tools installed still?

yes, and the script asks you.

The new script can also remaster from an installed partition.

I'm still working on the script, the "remastering from hdd" option is experimental and doesn't work right yet, it creates an ISO from a HDD install, but you still need to edit that ISO to make it work right (basically right now you'll not be able to log in to GUI in the remastered ISO, you can log in to CLI though).

Hopefully after I make some changes to the script it will work fine. I still need people to test the CD/ISO remastering part just in case I missed something, the script should work OK for those options. Please let me know if it doesn't.

Made some changes, now remastering from hdd in the generic Live CD should work... I didn't test yet how the xorg.conf and menu.lst are installed because on my home computer I can't actually install antiX or MEPIS (problem with kernel and my SATA drive)

i haved tried remaster.sh and i don't like that it choose the remaster directory to be in home by default. it would be nice to have an option from the start to choose the remaster directory, because i have 2.5 gig partition for antiX. also it started to remaster the iso but i didn't see the option to remaster from an hdd install. it gaved me an error because i run out of space but i'll try again as soon that i figure how to change the remaster dicretory location.

Initially you'd had to choose the remastering directory, but I got tired to enter it each time I was trying the script, now it asks for the directory only if there's already a "~/remaster" directory. However this is a small change to the script anybody can customize it however they want.

Has there been any more development on this script? I ran it and run into problems.
