Spartacus and Gnome?

Postby timo on Mon Jul 14, 2008 12:32 pm

I have done a few alterations with the sources.list and am having fun experimenting. I used Synaptic to get Gnome but now need to know which file I need to alter to have Gnome come up as the desktop or at least a choice of desktop?

I think you will have to edit the .xsession file.

Or, as you have installed gnome, gdm should have been installed to. use that rather than xdm as your login manager.

Just trying things

Well, I installed just the barest basic Gnome and then discovered that I could edit the Fluxbox menu and put Gnome-session in the WM's and it would work that way if I wanted a Gnome desktop for some reason.

I did some more installing of more Gnome stuff with Synaptic and it's sort of cool because I can get a lot of Gnome applications to run now (like Sound-Recorder etc) from my Fluxbox desktop. But to be honest it all sort of defeats the purpose. It's getting to be just a strange version of Dapper with Fluxbox now.
