is suspect your issue is that you left deb-multimedia enabled when you did the dist-upgrade. unpredictableness ensues when this happens. "Doh!" Well I guess it's a good thing I don't run a nuclear reactor... Yeah, My memory is vague on that But I think I may have... I suppose the fix for ...

thanks for posting the update with solution! Well if I was gonna mark it solved... I thought the solution was called for... I still don't really know what caused the problem, I've never had to touch xinit before. But while I was buzy scratching my head, I focused on this line from that terminal out...

I use different browsers for different things. For some things, like keeping a browser tab open to online dictionaries, google search results & wiki's, all day long, I like opera 12.16. (Which is I think, the last Opera version for Linux that doesn't just look like a clone of google-chrome, I in...

NEW startx permission problem after switching sources to testing for rolling release I'll admit to being stubborn. But I insist on booting to runlevel 3 and then, when/if I'm ready for the GUI, I run startx as a user. OK I'll also admit to the fact that nine times out of ten, startx is the first thi...

Though everytime I start openbox that way I get a pop-up {sudo based} password prompt to give wicd access... wicd permission box is triggered by the freedesktops.org "xdg autostarts" built into debian. By default, antix session management suppresses (or silently handles) details such as t...

4. Openbox should now appear in the "Other Desktops" menu of the start menu. select that and openbox starts up. AhHa! That's what I was missing... Since I don't generally use any Display Manager, I didn't know where to look for that. When you run startx from a virtual console after bootin...

I don't suppose it could be ignoring the preformatted ext3 partitions because it wants ext4??? I mean has anyone actually tested installing that iso to a preformatted ext3 partition yet? it shouldn't matter. Mine even shows ntfs and fat32 partitions, although I admit I don't have any ext3 partition...

Just to be clear, when I say I can't use a mouse {AKA Rodent AKA Rat} pointing device well, I mean: A) If I tried to close Iceweasel by clicking on the little x in the corner, Then unless I slow down so much that it would be quicker for me to type the entire first line of this post, I'm just as like...

does your machine happen to have a eMMC style SSD inside? The antiX 15 installer can't see those, but the one in antiX-16 (coming this weekend) can. Nah, the closest thing to a solid state drive I've ever had my hands on is a couple 32 Gig flashdrives. This Pavilion came with a one terabyte sata dr...

The antix-15.1_x64-full.iso Live installer won't let me choose a root partition... I don't get it. I downloaded the iso, and the iso.md5 which matched what I got with md5sum. Then I thought I'd start with a liveUSB so that I could experiment with some persistent tweaks (Mostly installing openbox and...

So If I understood then this should work: JtWdyP -> /mnt/etc > ls -l /etc/systemd/system/default.target lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 41 Jun 10 21:34 /etc/systemd/system/default.target -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/multi-user.target JtWdyP -> /mnt/etc > JtWdyP -> /mnt / etc > ls -l...

/ etc with out the space is the cause. Or drop the / . Oh so it's just "/" + "etc" that causes this: so then this should work: JtWdyP -> / > ls -l / etc/systemd/system/default.target lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 41 Jun 10 21:34 / etc/systemd/system/default.target -> /usr/lib/systemd/s...

OK so I went back to my thread in general questions and started pasting in my message a few lines at a time and previewing each paste... I found out that the forum post process didn't like a pasting of the terminal output of ls -l default.target even though it was in code tags... I note that this po...

I hope that I left the correct citation in here; I knocked out a lot of stuff to address just a couple of things: 1. re. the reference to Puppy: Both antiX and the current generation of MX owe at least some of the persistence functionality to work that has been experimented and honed over the years...
