Upgraded via upgrader script and...

Postby JawsThemeSwimming428 on Thu Aug 21, 2008 7:33 am

I upgraded using the upgrader script from 7.2 to 7.5, or so I thought. It finished and I tried to reboot and I noticed my Exit menu option no longer worked. So I shutdown from the terminal and when my machine came back up I selected antiX in my grub list. It then went through the boot procedure and booted to a console root login. I was a little shocked but I logged in as root and typed "startx". X started, but it wasn't antiX ( I don't think). All my preferences (wallpaper, panel, wbar, conky) were not present. As a matter of fact I didn't see anything that said or looked like it was from antiX. It looked like a default vanilla fluxbox install (like on the GParted LiveCD). Not sure what happened or what I should do but I would like my antiX back!

I am getting the following error message during boot:

Starting X Display Manager: slimslim : Failed to open default theme file /usr/share/slim/themes/default/slim.theme

Then it goes to the console login and it isn't my antiX when it boots.

Maybe not everything got upgraded as it should.

Login as root, but instead of starting X, try
apt-get update
apt-get -f install

Alternatively, at console login, login as your user, startX.

Do/did you have antiX default as login theme? It seems that slim cannot find it in /usr/share/slim/themes/

(BTW the vanilla fluxbox you saw is because it is in root. I deliberately left it looking ugly to deter users from logging in as root, and clearly showing that they are in root)

You will probably have to re-set your wbar, etc. The files *should* have been backed up.

I will do that as soon as I get home from work tonight. Yes, I did have antiX default as login theme. I figured that is what the default fluxbox look was for. And yes, my wbar was backed up! I will post back here with the results later.

Thanks Acesabe, I updated the script, so all should be ok now.

I had changed the address of the url (whilst making changes) and forgot to re-name it.

Will what you posted here still work for me?

You probably need to download the script again and run it.

You might be able to get into X desktop as user, by adding this cheatcode to the boot/menu
nogui

Than at console login as username, password, startX.
If that gets you to X, download the script again and run it.

If you cannot get into X as user, at console, login as user, password then do this:

$wget -c http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/antiX-upg ... grader.sh; chmod +x antiX-upgrader.sh
cd
root
./antiX-upgrader.sh

and all should be ok.

Ok, redownloaded script, ran it, no errors. However, I still get a console login with the theme file error. Also, conky is gone? And on my Fluxbox menu the Exit option doesn't work. I have to reboot from a terminal.

Edit: Also, Config-User and Config-System don't do anything.
