I think my cpu is being wrongly detected. It's a Compaq V5000(V5306US) with an AMD Turion64 1.6. These are the details from cat /proc/cpuinfo.

Code:
eriefisher@compaq:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo

It shows the cpu as 800mhz? I found a post with the next up cpu and it looks correct:

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_HP_Pavilion_dv5000z_series

And also the specs from HP:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=ca&docname=c00761882&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_CAEN

I was hoping someone had something similar to compare to or tell me if I'm chasing my tail here.

My desktop has an amd athalon 2200 mhz processor, but in the winxxx hardware manager it was showing as 2000 mhz. I remember changing a value in the bios settings and everything was fine after that. Don't know if this is the problem with your box though.

I just checked the bios and it sees the cpu as 1800mhz. More searching I guess.
