Keyboard problem

Postby rayburn on Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:54 pm

I have just discovered a problem with my UK keyboard, I cannot get the pound sterling symbol to work, shift + 3 just gives me 3, and the keyboard works properly in other distros.

The xorg.conf file is set to "uk", and all the other keys appear to work normally, any suggestions anyone?

Thank you eriefisher!

Problem solved, thanks for the link, I reset the keyboard language from "uk" to "gb" in xorg.conf and it is now behaving correctly.

Many thanks again.

There should be an option in the control center for british (gb) keyboard layouts:

Settings > Config-sser > Keyboard Settings > British

Does it work for you?

Sorry for the delay in replying, there is indeed a way to change the keyboard language as you suggest, however, I chose the en_gb option at installation and the xorg.conf came up with UK rather than GB.

I wasn't aware that it made a difference before, but it obviously does as my keyboard now functions correctly.

Thanks for your help.

Another thing to try is

control center > system > configure system

There is an option to configure the locale.

Yes, you are correct, but the en_gb option just gives you the uk keyboard, and not the gb option which is necessary.

Thanks.
