Thanks John. I like the general look but didn't really take too much time to make it "pretty". Just put somethng together to experiment with the process. Simple text, a rectangle, and a few drop shadows.

Sakasa: Thanks for the response. I did make it the same resolution/size as the default Mepis image....800 X 600. I also tried to keep it very close in general format. I also made it jpg like the original. The file size is a little larger than the Mepis default, however. Hopefully later tonight I can try a similar version that might be smaller in file size or a little simpler.

I still wonder if I'm overlooking something in menu.lst that might be affecting things. I found several good Grub menu wiki/how to's and studied through them to no avail.

I'll keep trying. I would like someone else to give the process an attempt and show me the error of my ways Smile
I found it more firm and specific the change in resolutions by using showfoto art application: steps: Transform/resize/ take out the maintain aspect ration by clicking it. and resize it to the same exact grub image. This should work. also sometime the width and height % needs to be the same as the original grub image this can also be change.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the moral support. I'm happy to report I finally got it to work Very Happy

No matter how closely I matched the resolution, file size, etc. I could not get it to work. Finally I took the original Mepis image I extracted from the archive and modified it. First pasting in a piece of the BTB wall and working from there. When the image was complete I deleted the original background layer. Voila'

I've learned a great deal about the process. Now we can work on the image design itself. I'm open to ideas.

Have you used:
ImageMagik's utility "Identify" to compare the two images data to see if it shows that something was off?

Not that i would know but read it online somewhere?
--sorry can't find the link and it was about grub images too.

From my part if you guys choose a image you guys will like and if there is a change that need to be made to the image yet let me know. I'm not very good in deciding which image will be best. I will cooperate the best to my my knowledge in setting up the image the way you guys choose it to be if it is possible. Not necessarily the image have to be my, there is a lot of talent here.

I'm open to help to make changes to any image. Yes let me know.

I will continue doing to try to come out with something new with a new look image with the need in mind.

Best Regards,

Hmmmm. Very interesting. Thanks for the tip Harii. A lot of this info is available in Gimp but not in such a nice concise format and detail. I found a link at: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/identify.php I will check it out some more. This could be very useful in the future.

Thanks Sakasa for you willingness to assist and all your great images we have to choose from.

I guess the main question right now is do we want to base the new grub image off the BTB wall that is the current default wall for antiX? I would say yes since that is what Anti has chosen. Now that we know the process we can always update the grub image in the future with new default wallpaper choices.

Here is the current test image that I was able to get working.

What do you like and not like about this base image? Don't worry about offending me...this is just a place to start (I also have pretty thick skin Smile )

The only thing I would suggest is the version number under the logo? What do you think? Too much?

There is two wallpapers hereI'm working in another version type also. The first one could be use for desktop. I thought about you guys thinking about blue. Let me know what you think about it? If this is the image than if there is something you guys need for me to change also let me know. The image Is unique and fashion Pro looking for me. Also I think it matches some themes images. The image looks smooth anywhere. Anticapitalista I went ahead and created from your same logo letter a more clear one, took it out of the logo and add it up a fashion looking circle behind it. You let me know if any changes if this is going to be the one. I forgat the lines under and above can also serve as a nice looking kicker if wish.

Here is the link:

I know some of you like the other logo type with the big X here is the link:

Best Regards.

My internet has been down for a few days. Wireless internet and storm problems on the tower I receive from. Back up and going.

I've added a version number. I also went to flat gray instead of a blended color for the text. The blended looked great at night but with a little more natural light during the day it was more dark than I liked. The image stretches which makes the image darker than these screenshots as well. The jpg screenshot degrades the image quite a bit but you all know how great the BTB wall looks in its original glory. This grub image looks just as nice.

I also shrunk the BTB wall before cutting out the 800 X 600 section...for the same reason (image stretch). It looks very nice in action. Not sure how to do a grub screenshot unless with a camera.

Any other comments or suggestions regarding design elements?

I also played with using similar text on the BTB wallpaper...just for kicks. Here are the screenshots.

Thanks Sakasa. Love the new blue as well.

Almost forgot. Here is the version with "lean & mean" and no version number. What is the consensus preference?

I like the "lean and mean" wall. This way you don't need to keep updating the wall for each new version. But I must say that I prefer the fading effect you had with the text in your previous wall. Maybe you could introduce it again?

I will work some more on the blend/faded text. As I said the problem is it looks a little dark with strong natural light in the room. I tried some other shades for the blend but I will work on that some more and see what I can come up with. I prefer the look myself....just a visibility issue. And thanks for the comment.

Maybe outline the text? Would that help make it stand out a bit?

Haven't forgotten this project. Work has been hectic and I'm leaving on a 4 fishing trip into the mountains with the pack llamas. Should be back to continue this around the 12th.
