Which file manager do you use and why?

I like the power of rox, but don't like the way it does drag-n-drop.

I thought pcmanfm might be an upgrade since it has a tree view, but you can't drag-n-drop in the tree view - you must open a tab. This solution is only marginally better than rox. Also, it seemed a little slow at updating the changes to the directories (and it had a couple of dependencies),

I tried thunar, but it had a lot of dependencies and I had hard time configuring it properly.

I settled on xfe. I love it. It is included in antix and needed just a little of configuring. The only downsides are the low-tech looks and it slows down a bit when viewing thumbnails. So, the power of thunar with the lightness of rox. I dig it.

I like rox too. But here's where my noobyness shines through: drag and drop requires openinig a separate rox window. New users used to a tree-view can stumble over this. Usually it's okay, but recently I did a *lot* of messing with wine configuration and installing windows apps. and nothing but a tree-view would do. Is that what you mean by the way rox does drag-n-drop? Is there some easier way to do this in rox? (Puhleeze don't tell me to just learn the bloody terminal...)

I've gotten used to thunar on an install of zenwalk I play with sometimes on a backup system. Once you get used to it, moving files around is simple and zippy.

I prefer Thunar, as I've used this file manager for quite sometime and thus I have grown accustomed to it. I've tried rox but I can't say am too keen on it.

I can't believe that nobody uses MC anymore.

Pcmanfm right now. Only because ease of networking. One click connections to my other boxes, ssh or samba. It will also control the desktop for icons and such if thats what you want.

Use rox-filer most of the time. Liked xfe but like everyone else thought it was a little plain. Just started playing with pcmanfm a little to see what it is like.

Rox-filer: quick & simple. Xfe, as well, from time to time.

I use rox for now; I don't have a lot of time to experiment with my antiX system, so I just use the first thing that works for me.

I use pcmanfm.
It is as light as rox and the icons are getting better.
Family can find things where rox they just get mad.
The tabs are very handy as well.
Before that i used endeavour2-- much like xfe but smaller (not much).

You can use any gtk icons you like. Just add them to your gtkrc-2.o.

Or on the new iso you can use control center > desktop tab > change gtk2 & icon themes to set the icon theme (this will launch lxappearance).

the older pcmanfm desktop icon system was buggy and no root menu would work.
the newer pcmanfm icon system is way better and is very improved.
I'm not sure but the root menus works now with the new one-- i think?
Pcmanfm has come a long way and just gets better.

the new ISO have some nice blackish icons!

i like pcmanfm. been using it on slitaz and tinyMe(as file manager and desktop).
its simple to use.

i am not comfortable on rox. i guess i just like pcmanfm maybe because its simple.
its "tree view" is very useful. and yeah, the Desktop View... i like.

btw, pcmanfm on tinyMe includes "mount/unmount" capability on its "tree view".

well, anyways... rox or pcmanfm as file manager is up to the user's preference...

antiX is an awesome distro
