IceWM Theme

Postby OU812 on Wed May 28, 2008 7:03 am

Hello. I am hoping that you like this icewm theme that I put together. I don't know if it's ready to be a default theme for antix - you are the judge of that. Anyway, some of my favorite styles leaned towards the murrina candy type look. This one caught my eye because it has some elements while still retaining a classic icewm look. Then I found a nice gtk2 theme that seemed to fit well, especially with bits of blue. This picks up sakasa's wall very well - I've been wanting to use this wall for awhile now. Finally, I thought the light black icons rounded things out pretty well. Hope you agree. Let me know either way. Thanks.

OU812 this is nice!

Yesterday I try to look for the direction you gave me about the icewm start menu button but it became complicated. I do not use or have AntiX in my harddrive but I use the LiveCD. Because I do not understand very well AntiX I coul'nt retreat the original image so I can make one. The issue is for me to get this start menu button image so I can make a different line of these, for you if you wish.

Thanks for the help if it is possible.

Best Regards,

I don't like IceWm that much, but that's mainly because of the themes etc, for it's most certainly a very fast, light & capable WM. But you've just changed all that with this theme John. It's Great!! I really like the way that the purple? colour wallpaper brings out the subtle blacks & grays of the theme, and the icon set's really nice. It almost looks like a really siwsh OpenBox theme, rather than an IceWM one.

Makes me want to try IceWM right now! :) Is the theme available for download?

Thank you for the positive response. If you look carefully enough through the icewm themes available at box-look and freshmeat (see bookmarks) you'll be rewarded with some very modern or tasteful retro themes. Here's some info:

1. Theme (or style)
http://themes.freshmeat.net/projects/simplestblack/

unpack it to ~/.icewm/themes and select it from icewm: start>settings>themes

2. Wall
http://antix.freeforums.org/antix-grepi ... -t731.html

Save it in ~/Wallpaper

3. Gtk2 theme
I can't access gnome-look right now. I remember that it was a murrina theme written by lyrae? The same person who does some of the fluxbox styles at customize.org.

4. Icons
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. ... tent=76814
Unpack it to ~/.icons. Then edit ~/.gtkrc-2.0 as follows:
Code: Select all
gtk-icon-theme-name="ALLGREY"

Note: If you change your gtk2 theme, you will need to re-edit this file.

I'll edit this post when I can access gnome-look. Let me know if there are any improvements I can make. Or even xmms skin suggestions. Thanks.

Hello. I decided to go for a more subdued gtk2 theme with a bit more black. I also decided to go for a blue icon set to complement the blue folder icons in the start menu. Here's a screenshot:

Next step: Find an xmms skin.

If you're a fan of this style, then you may want to install this matching icon theme (matches folders in start menu)

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. ... tent=37099

Here's the latest screenshot with all elements in place (except xmms skin).

Looks nice John. Like the newer icons. Email me some actual start buttons if you want me to make a stab at making some antix versions. That way I can use the button to work off of, knowing the correct dimensions, etc.

Ok. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll check my mail later today as I'm really busy with rewriting the antix scripts - desktop config, system config, icewm menus, screenshot script, etc. I'll email you the start button from this style since it seems to be the most popular. Thanks for the assist.

This looks like the final version of this theme. I've changed the gtk theme, conky, xmms skin, and start button. Thanks to impuwat for the start button and eriefisher for conky.

Then download and install lxappearance from here

http://debian.lcs.mit.edu/debian/pool/m ... ppearance/

you probably want the i386 package. After installation, launch it and use it to choose the icon set.
