The last 25 times I tried to install Anti-x it said your cpu is not supported

Are you ever going to get around to supporting pentium classic
or pentium mmx or pentium 1's

Absolute Linux did the same thing...but sooooo many folks are stuck
with those...that he recompiled and supported them....

what say you ???

Sure would help me take a whole attic full of boxes out and use them....

burdicda

This is not a joke.....

Hi there again burdicda.

Did Spartacus (M6.5) work on those old boxes? I can't remember.
The problem I have is getting a PI compliant kernel to install and boot whilst in the chroot remaster. I have yet to succeed.
If you know how to do so, or can point to help somewhere, then I'm up for it.
It is my lack of knowledge for this, not a deliberate choice. I would love to have a live distro with the option of a 'modern' kernel and 'old' kernel at the menu, just like the early Mepis had.

I've been planning to remaster antiX to put in an older version of the kernel and support for LILO. If I succeed, I would be happy to share my modified ISO file with anyone who wants it.

Hey burdicda,

Glad to see you're still up and around.

I'm wondering how low an older kernel version of antiX would be able to go in getting really minimal systems running. I've got two systems running antiX but the old box I dug out of the closet can't run much of anything except Damn Small Linux. It's got a 167 Mhz CPU with 28 megs of RAM (!!).

Obvioulsy the current antiXes choke on this. But DSL runs pretty sweet. And there's a DSL book that would help configure those old boxes even on the most minimal of resources (check out _The Official Damn Small Linux Book_).

But what would be *really* great would be an antiX for older cpu's and minimal RAM, maybe a version of anitX-base that could then be built up with only the minimal apps you'd need to make the old boxes useful.

DSL is great, but it's not nearly as friendly as antiX.

Yeah I haven't been back to Mepis in awhile...
I switched over to Debian (took off the training wheels LOL)
But I always look back fondly and recently came across a whole lot of
old boxes with P1's ...

Anyone wanting to see what is capable...
check out Absolute Linux....the author of that one has always supported
the old P1's and recently came out with a new release that didn't....
Upon me questioning him about grandfather support...within a couple of
hours that very night he recompiled and voom.....had support back in..

That particular distro is lightning fast even on old old old boxes...
P1's with 32meg.....

I'm just yearning for Anti-x to do likewise......
