gxine upgrade

Postby anticapitalista on Sat May 10, 2008 12:47 am

Be careful as upgrading gxine will cause it to segfault.
Solution is not to upgrade at the moment or use the one in unstable/sid.

(The one that doesn't work is 0.5.902-2. The one in sid is 0.5.902-3 and default in antiX-M7.2 is 0.5.8-3)

Directions on how to pin a package are in the MEPIS Wiki. Note that locking the version in Synaptic will work too as long as you always use Synaptic for updating and upgrading; Apt will not "see" the package pinned unless you change the preferences file as directed in the Wiki. Unless I am mistaken, your new entry in that file should read:
Code: Select all
Package: gxine
Pin: version 0.5.8-3
Pin-Priority: 1000

Thanks--I actually don't understand that very well. Does the MEPIS Wiki method work just as well? That one at least makes sense to me...

Thanks.

I checked and that code correctly pins the package.

BTW: do we actually have any need for the gxineplugin since we already have the mplayer one that works well?

I think that the code from sidux pins it elsewhere ie not in /etc/apt/preferences. Now whether this is better, I have no idea.
The advantage is that you don't need to know the full version name to pin it. Just pin the working version as the manual shows, and that's it.

The gxine plugin is not installed in VETËVENDOSJE! (I think) so I don't think it is needed.

As from 15 May 2008, gxine upgrade is ok. It pulls in version 0.5.902-3
