To make it easier, why not just add opera to your sources.list file?

So, become root, type nano /etc/apt/sources.list and add one of these two lines:

For AntiX 6.5 (Ubuntu base):
Code: Select all
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu dapper-commercial main

For AntiX 7 (Debian base):
Code: Select all
deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free

That way, you can just apt-get install opera & be able to get updates for it.

hehe, that's what you get from hanging around Ubuntu folk. :D

So far, antiX is stuck in VirtualBox, but I'm considering moving it to another machine just because of how responsive it is. Thank you for your awesome distro!

Never had a problem installing Opera but thought I would experiment with Angryfirelord's suggestion and try the install through synaptic. After reloading repos I received a public keys error message but synaptic still downloaded and installed a working Opera.
