Problem with graphic (Geode LX800)

Postby gritibaenz on Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:27 pm

Hello,

I am using an an alix1c computer (=> http://www.pcengines.ch/alix1c.htm ) which is using an AMD Geode LX800 CPU.

I was testing SimplyMEPIS 7.0 which actually is working fine (including graphics, Wireless etc).
To make the behaviour of the computer faster I found antiX, downloaded antiX-M7.2-preview1.iso and tried it on the machine.

It boots up, tries to start the GUI and goes back to the shell prompt. As well the VESA and failsafe boot - option deliveres the same results.

Starting the gui again with startx or xinit deliveres the following error:

Code: Select all
...
c000:0282: A2 ILLEGAL EXTENDED X86 OPCODE
(EE) VESA(0):set VBE code failed!
Fatal server error
Addscreen/screeninit failed for driver 0

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on Xserver ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 10 events remaining.

This seems very strange, since the AMD driver is included (xserver-xorg-video-amd).

Does anyone have an idea what is going wrong here, and probably have an idea how to correct this?! Thanks in advance.

I'm really looking forward for a solution, since the lightwwight mepis aka antiX could be the perfect OS for this small box.

Thanks for the very fast response. Your solution did help! So I did an install to the HD/CF-Card.
