toram testers needed.

antiX-M7 has a toram option, but I don't know if it works well or not.
It is not like Puppy/DSL ie with very low RAM, but for those with quite a lot of it.

Anyone want to try it from the live cd? Just add toram at the grub boot screen.

Anti,
I'm not sure what specific information you're looking for but here's some general info:

2.9 Ghz P4 1024 MB RAM Live CD ToRam option

From Grub to Login Screen = 2 min 10 sec
Did some poking around running various default programs and everything runs quick and well. For the most part, program response is immediate. Even Firefox took only a few seconds to load.

mem: 10180924k
used: 932312k (running Firefox & wterm)
free: 85788k

Unlike Moron's Ferrari computer, I am using a 233 mhz w/ 160 mb RAM. My computer is almost as slow as my 4-cylinder diesel Benz.

Tell me what data you want and I will play test pilot.

The toram option is really for those with a fair amount of RAM (minimum 256MB, probably a lot more). What it means is that you can free the cd when booting from the livecd. Also, with enough RAM, opening apps is supposed to be quicker than running from the cd.

I have something(s) for you to test if you want (your box is ideal for testing).

Sure, I can give that a try tomorrow. What sort of data are you looking for, "didn't lock up" or something more quantitative?

I can also test the toram on one of my desktop systems (more RAM and faster processors) if desired.

Basically, for the low-end machine:

1. Lowest RAM needed to boot (installed and livecd)
2. Comparisons of speed with different RAM settings, (conky helps!)
a) grub menu to desktop
b) times to first open an app ie browser, abiword, video, audio, burner
c) subsequent opening times
d) general 'feel' ie snappy, sluggish, unbearable.

For the toram, it is from livecd. Once it has booted, you should be able to remove the cd, but continue working in antiX. It is supposed to be faster as it is using RAM rather than a mixture of RAM and cd speed.
