Ok, just to get some feedback.

As the question asks.

Let us know how your installed antiX is going. Have you upgraded? Anything broken?

I'll begin.

My main distro is an antiX-M7 (actually it is a beta version, beta 3 I think) dist-upgraded using the Debian Sid repos and using a sidux kernel. Everything is working smoothly so far with only minor problems with upgrading that is usually fixed in a day or two.

On another partition I have antiX-M7.01 fully dist-upgraded via sid, again no issues.

In Virtualbox I have a fully dist-upgraded antiX-base plus extras, this time using the testing repos. Works fine.

Finally, also in VB I have antiX-M7.01 dist-upgraded through sid plus kde. Works fine.

I've got to be the most conservative user on this forum. I have an antiX 6.5 (Spartacus) install on a P3 Dell laptop and an antiX 7 (Lysistrata) install on a P4 Dell desktop.

I've kept both installs absolutely unchanged. No upgrades, no changes in the repos. My main use is to add applications carefully through synaptic or occasionally with a deb package from places like Linux App Finder.

This is partly from some old Windows advice I got long ago: "Get your system set up the way you like and then LEAVE IT ALONE!"

But I have another reason: I'm still a pretty new user and want to see just how far I can go with a Linux distro before I start feeling the pinch of having to change something. At what exact point is what I've got not doing the job? I went through this before with earlier Mepises, especially MepisLite. I think I was the longest surviving MepisLite user. But finally it became impossible because the repos no longer functioned effectively and...well...things became more, rather than less, complicated by trying to keep using outdated applications.

Okay, the situation now: my experience with using both versions of antiX a *lot* over the months shows that you can do pretty much anything you want, and *if* you are a new user nervous about keeping your system running and *if* you pretty much leave it alone--you will have *no* problems. (Sorry for the asterisks, but I do want to emphasize this amazing stability.)

I get *no* freezes or crashes or slow downs or non-boots. I use my systems off and on pretty much all day long. They are not new.

Why am I making big deal out of this? Simple: New users scanning the discussions on the forum will get the impression that antiX (or any Linux) is riddled with glitches. Problems from end to end. But this is an illusion. What the forums fail to show is the massive silent population of users happily working without glitches becaue they simply leave their systems alone.

I'm not saying that leaving the system alone is a virtue. In fact, the attraction to Linux starts with the joy of fiddling with your box. But Linux can also accomodate folks who only want to work efficiently and have fun with their computer without glitches. And I've found that they can do this. Just leave the basic set-up alone. Enjoy nirvana.

My only regret is that this limits my experience with the OS and confines me to answering about three basic questions to those coming here for help...

Still running the original Lysisrata with sid upgrades. There is an occasional package problem but they don't last long.

What's this sidux kernel? Is it any better or just different?

Not sure if it (sidux kernel) is better or not, I just experimented with it.

I ran Spartacus until the release of the M7 betas and liked it quite a bit. At present, I use antiX_M7_base on a P3 1GHz 384 MB Dell laptop and the new M7_beta on a nearly identical laptop. I use Lysistrata on an old Packard-Bell Celeron 400 MHz w/ 256 MB RAM. Believe it or not, it runs great. In fact, they all do and I have had no problems with any of them that I did not create myself. AntiX is an amazingly stable os. The only problem I have is that I am running of computers to put it on.

I had a couple of reservations, localization and Windowmaker problems.
But it seems Lysistrata 7.01 (Lenny reps) has been able to set up my wireless card with ndiswrapper (I dont have a wifi connection to try it on now).
That's pretty good, not even mandriva has been able to set up this card so far. A Topcom card which has been badly/not supported.

I'm running antiX M7.1 Lysistrata in a VM and on a custom machine with a P4 3GHz proc and 1 GB of RAM (I have a bunch of distros on this machine, just wanted to see antiX fly!). Running fine so far, only been about 3 weeks.

antiX-KDE Sydney (thats what I call it now) rocks.. Installed it on 4 of my PCs. No issues ... lately.

What the heck is antiX-KDE Sydney???

haha.. .. Anti released antiX-KDElite. and I remastered it. Added the full KDE.. kde-extras.. desktop-base.... and dist-upgraded to Sid.. Sid & Lenny.. Sydney.. (thats what I named it)

I'm running 7.1 on an old PIII 600 (Celeron) Compaq Armada laptop that has 128mb of ram....... and i'm also running the 7.2 Beta on a P4 2.6ghz machine with a gig of ram.

The laptop's been running 7.1 since it was released and i've only just installed 7.2 on the P4.

Both systems are running great, and the laptop is using Debian Unstable for the repos (Is that sid?). I also run Arch on the laptop (Dual boot) and the weird thing is that antiX is easily as fast as Arch in almost everything!! Arch is hard work to set up, whereas antiX is a breeze to do almost "Anything" with, and comes fully configured!!

So, although i'll probably keep Arch on here for a while (Mainly because it's a great learning distro and i've spent a lot of time getting it going) antiX is definitely the distro that gets my vote.... It's supremely fast, stable, very friendly and has everything that i need!

Man what a cool distro! I had previously installed PCLOS on my Mom's desktop (65 y.o non computer type). I was really pleased but now that I have found antix, I'm waiting to get back to Texas to upgrade for her!

I haven't installed any upgrades on the Dell, since there is no Internet connection in the xorio yet. I heard the magic date is 31/5 for adsl connections without the OTE (phone company) tax. The only program I really want to add is inkscape but I don't know how well the system will handle the program.

I do all my class preparation with abiword now and I even use the xmms to play english language dialogs for the students to listen to. I haven't tried the wireless connectivity yet, but hopefully it will be straight forward since my son told me the mepis distros always recognized the card without trouble.
