Something different for you to have fun with.

antiX-kdelite.iso (c250MB) available for testing.

http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/

This antiX version includes kdebase and kdm, built on the antiX-base. It has a basic KDE setup and also comes with fluxbox (default in kdm).

Testers welcome.

Anti, I found the command for changing the 'default' kdm x-session-manager from Fluxbox to KDE
Code: Select all
update-alternatives --config x-session-manager

I've just downloaded the KDElite base, which looks really interesting, so i shall be trying that over the next week or so. I'm not a KDE fan, but i love Konqueror and use it on almost every distro i run, so it'll be interesting to see how it works on antiX.

Anyone know if it's possible to run KDE using OpenBox as the WM? I know it's possible with Gnome and it works really well.

I have been working on a remaster for my own enjoyment. Added the full KDE, desktop-base, my favorite multi-media tweaks. Changed some setting, added a new wallpaper & changed the loading screen to reflect the name antiX-KDE instead of Debian.
Here is a screenshot of my new look, so far.

That looks really nice xToeCutter. Did you do all of the work in V-Box as well or are you just running the latest version in V-Box?

Thanks DJiNN.
No, I did the work in Mepis 7. Just used VBox to test my work.

Heres a couple of short videos of it installed and booting/rebooting with a working splash screen.

On the Live CD I have to add splash to the boot parameter. Need to figure out how to edit that in the squashfs.

Eventually, xToeCutter.

To be honest, it is not my priority, so anyone who wants to take on the project to help me with it, just say yay!

Want to part of the dev team for antiX-kdelite?

Also I note in your info. Is there really a place called Humble in Texas?

LOL... Yes.. the H is silent.. . Its where IAH (Intercontinental Airport Houston) is, 10 miles North of Houston. Home of Humble Oil which became Exxon. One the the first major oil stirkes in the area at Moonshine Hill.

I would love to be part of the team. I can't stop trying to remaster it anyway.

Happy Mothers Day.

Exxon, the crooks yeh? Wasn't there a film (you say movie) about Exxon corruption?

I'm serious about setting up a dev team or teams of antiX users/supporters. I want antiX to become more of a community based distro (or at least as much as possible, within the limits set down by Warren and MEPIS ie the closed-source Utilities unfortunately IMO).
That means not just input from the community, but direct involvement in deciding where the distro should go.
The antiX-kde-lite was a good start IMO, but as I don't use KDE, I'm obviously limited in what should be included in a lite kde distro. I just go by my favourite, sidux-lite.

I'll try to get some sort of framework sorted so we can collaborate on an antiX-kde-lite upgrade (with others who wish to participate) and I'm sure we can produce a very goos, fast and stable antiX-kde-lite distro in the near future.

I am not a programmer by no means. However, I would love to help in any way I can. I do think the first place to start is a "framework" so time and effort is not wasted.
