antiX-M8.2 "Tȟašúŋke Witkó" released!

Postby anticapitalista on Fri Jul 24, 2009 4:55 pm

On behalf of the antiX-team I am proud to announce that antiX MEPIS 8.2 'Tȟašúŋke Witkó' - a fast, light, flexible and complete desktop and livecd based on SimplyMEPIS and Debian Testing is now available in full and base versions. This release defaults to a fully customised icewm desktop (fluxbox is also installed) using a SimplyMEPIS 2.6.27-25 kernel and tweaked MEPIS Assistants for better compatibility in antiX.
10 languages are fully supported out of the box with the language chosen at live CD boot carrying over to install. Boot time should be faster, particularly if the 'Faster' option is chosen at livecd boot menu and RAM usage low. antiX-Control Centre has been further improved, new scripts for screenshots, phonebook, mouse configuration have been added. As well as including the usual applications such as iceweasel(3.0.11) available in 11 languages, pidgin(2.5.8), abiword(2.6.8), gnumeric(1.9.9), rox-filer(2.9) and claws-mail(3.5), antiX-M8.2 also includes a meta-installer, an updated ceni and wicd(1.6.1) for wired/wireless connections, UMTSmon - a simple connect program for users using 3g usb modems, antiX-M8.2 uses X.org 7.4, auto-login with latest SLiM, smxi, inxi, svmi scripts from h2, and Dillo 2.1-1. New apps include: gecko-mediaplayer, gnome-mplayer, alpine, alsaplayer, cheese, antix2usb script and many more.
...

Well, both antiX-M8.2 and antiX-M8.2-base are finally available, at the moment, here (thanks carlops):

Oh, I guess I lost my post.
Congratulations, anti and team! I'm going to download a bit later.
PS. What does the name of this release refer to this time?

It's also included in the documentation for the release. I think it is in the Documents folder of your home directory.

8.2 won't boot, tons of errors and can't finds. Investigating further.

Hmm, these releases always seem to happen on days when I have been busy doing other things! Ah well, at least I did not allow a full 24 hours to go by! Grabbed copies of both the base and the full; will try out both in Virtualbox OSE first then install them later on at least one, possibly a couple of systems.

Meanwhile, I let Jim Lynch over at DesktopLinuxReviews know that this release is out. I will probably write at least one or two reviews of my own, and I will also, in keeping with the Broadway classic" "Start Spreading the News!" :-)

Congratulations, anti, on making yet another milestone, and thanks for everyone who helped test this, especially all of you who helped broaden the language and localization support. Now I'll do my bit and let as many people as I can know about it! :-)

Well I just booted the iso in VB. Once I compiled and installed the VB module for the latest Liquorix kernel antiX booted fine. Working perfectly. Now to retry on a different disc.

I am here in Virtualbox OSE with antiX M8.2 - full - already tried antiX M8.2 BASE - and both work beautifully for me in the Virtualbox, just as all of the test versions did. I have gotten the word out to a few places, and I hope to be writing some positive reviews and spread the word more over the next week or so.

Hope that this release works as well for all of you as it is working for me! Thanks anti, and thanks EVERYONE who has contributed in one way or another to the release, from the MEPIS friends at MEPIS Lovers, to Warren, to all of the helpers here - great collaborative effort! I will get the word out, you can be sure of that!

Running 8.2 live right now on IBM A22 I picked up for 30 bucks. It had a broken Power jack and no ram or hardrive. Thanks guys for the dhclient tip. Running it wireless right now.
I post a inxi -f over in Hardware in next post. Running good so far. Good job guys. Dancing Banana

Ok, running fine now. I used a different disc and it boots perfectly. Now to find something to install it on.

Oh, OK. It really is Lakota for Crazy Horse; I thought I must be mistaken. I know who he was; I grew up in his part of the world.

I guess I have to actually read the documentation.

Edit: BTW, the first 2 Google items on Tȟašúŋke Witkó are for antiX.
