Here is the base version of antiX-M8.2.

http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/Test%20releases/

Ideal for those who want to start small and customise. Probably installing antiX-M8.2-base is the easiest way to install Debian.

mepis-init and antiX live scripts get removed on first boot after installation.
With a little bit of work this version can be made Debian 'pure' quite easily.

When I get the time, I'll post a how to.

Hello. I was just wondering if we should take a cue from mandriva and include a control center. We could start by removing the desktop tab and focusing only on the remainining tabs. Perhaps scale back some buttons or add some. This way we don't need to worry about translations since we'd only be rearranging things a bit.

Anti, before you close this release...I was thinking that you should use the pt_BR translations for the MEPIS tools for the pt_PT locale (in case you didn't do it already).

Cheers.

It should have them, secipolla.

If I add the antiXcc it makes the iso bigger.
I'll look into it.
Remember the base is not really meant as a 'complete' mini distro, but a way to get up and started in X
easily and quickly.
antiX-base is good as a rescue cd as well.

If not the control center, then perhaps a menu entry? And then use submenus in place of the tabs? This way it shouldn't take up any extra room.

i just played with it. my theme is there .:) thank you anti.
some stuff i found are the lack of bookmarks to antix, antix forum, softpedia, mepislovers, fluxbox and so on. and if you use choose wallpaper and feh is opened the menu highlight and text are white, so you cannot read the options in the menu.

to keep the size down ,

can the "control center" be added in the meta-installer for base install?
How about a control center without the icons (text buttons)?
that way you don't have to add the icons.

food for thought

Great idea hari! Maybe even add all of the custom antix tools: control center, screenshot, and mouse.

Hey maybe we can even have a little repo going on, after all erie has packaged volwheel for us.

Or maybe a little subforum?

The best way to do this IMO is to have an antiX repo containing only antiX specific debs such as for the antiXcc, antiX scripts, antiX-art etc.I have been thinking of doing this, but it won't be ready for 8.2.
It, hopefully, will be ready for the release after that.
I hope we can use the already set up ml community repos to host antiX debs and just add some section eg

Code: Select all
#MEPIS Community
#Main Repo
#deb http://teharris.net/mepiscr/repo/ mepis8cr/antiX main non-free
#Test Repo
#deb http://teharris.net/mepiscr/testrepo/ mepis8cr/antiX test

I'll check with Tim and the ml community devs. Also it would need packers. There is a team over at ML and I suppose anyone who wants to package antiX debs could/should be part of that team(?).

As far as packaging scripts and stuff, that's no problem. I haven't tried to actually build a deb from source. I suppose I could learn though.

building debs out of scripts, files, artwork etc is fairly easy.
