I installed opera mepis build from SPM and was wondering what would happen if I tried to install the latest version form the opera site. That is i'm not sure how these special builds work.
As i said before, I'm using the latest mepis build opera 9.10 and I would be installing a mepis compatible version like http://www.opera.com/download/ MEPIS 3.4-3, 6.0, 6.5.

So if this was possible, do I uninstall before installing or just install on top of the old one?

Which antiX are you using r3bol?

If you are using Spartacus, then I guess you can install the opera deb from Mepis 6.5.
If you are using an antiX-M7 beta I would download the debian etch or testing one.

I would think it would be better to uninstall the old one first.

moron has installed the latest opera on antiX-M7-rc1 without problems.

I'm running Spartacus, and the Mepis 6.5 version of Opera 9.22 downloaded from the Opera site runs very well (much smoother and faster, for me, than Firefox). After years of using Opera, I've never uninstalled previous versions or had trouble as a result.

Thanks, I'm using 6.5.
I've downloaded the Mepis 6.5 version, but i need to associate a command to run the deb file.

I researched a bit and concluded it was dpkg, but when I set the shell command in set run action (dpkg "$@") nothing happens when clicking the deb file.

Put the downloaded deb into your home directory then
as root in a terminal

dpkg -i op (hit tab button to finish, or type out the name of the opera file in full)

as root user one line

dpkg -i opera_9. complete or hit the tab button to auto-complete

Yes, I'm root in my home dir and the deb file is there too.

From the fluxbox menu, click on terminal
Type su then your root password then

dpkg -i (then name of the opera deb you downloaded)
and hit enter.

To start opera then type as user (not root) opera in another terminal

Thats what I normally do to login as root. (terminal>su>pass)
My prompt says root@0[rebol]#
Then I type dpkg -i opera...rest of the filename

What's the full name of the opera file and where is it?

Its in the home folder...
root@0[r3bol]# ls
opera_9.23-20070809.6-shared-qt_en_i386.deb
bashpodder
documents
...some other folder names here...

As root, type in terminal:

dpkg -i opera_9.23-20070809.6-shared-qt_en_i386.deb

What happens?

ok, its sorted. I tried the same thing on my ubuntu system and it worked fine so I reinstalled antiX 6.5 and tried again. It installed fine, first time.

I think I may have broken something when I was installing or uninstalling something via SPM. Thats all I can think of at the moment.
