The kernel error message I have reported disappeared
--afraid i had to remove the install anyhow because i needed the spare HD.

I'll switch from Kubuntu to Mepis on my main machine as soon as M7 is final.

m7 is final,im sure anti is still working on it to improve it more.

Yet another Intel desktop: Fluxbuntu 7.0 (which is about to be replaced with Lysistrata)

(* = I don't know what brand they are. These are boxes someone put together from parts and just gave to me, so there's no "label," per se. I know they have Intel processors, but from there it's a mystery.)

iMac G3 Indigo (3 of them): All Debian 4.0
iBook G3: Xubuntu 6.10
PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: NetBSD (doesn't count, I know)

[Ask me someday to give you my speech about the distro that develops for the PowerPC will be ahead of the game because Apple hardware, with a couple of exceptions, is sturdy and has a very long life. Now that Apple has abandoned them, they need a good distro to migrate to.]

Needless to say that my wife was more than a little annoyed with all the hardware in the house, so I've moved most of the machines to a small office in Felton (HeliOS Solutions West), where I do all my software development and testing (that's my avocation -- my profession is a newspaper editor). So I primarily use the Dell, the iBook and one of the iMacs (and incidentally my 9-year-old daughter, I'm proud to say, net installed Debian on her iMac by herself, with Dad looking over her shoulder, but she had no questions and made no missteps).

P.S. -- Incidentally, I inherited four IBM PL series boxes which I will install AntiX on as soon as I have time.

Wow, that is a whole bunch of computers. Sounds like my garage's stash. I am most jealous of the laptops, even if some are Apple.

Keep collecting hardware like this, and next thing you know you will want to become Insurance Commissioner or something. <grin>

God forbid -- After last year's campaign (270,218 votes, 3.2 percent, I might add), I've retired from electoral politics in order to evangelize for FOSS.

I'm jealous as I've only got one,(well actually two as I had forgotten about an old PII 166 with 16MB RAM and 3GB hdd. If I can get hold of some more RAM I'll try and get antiX-base to work on it)

I hear that you are a bit of a writer. Fancy writing a review of antiX (Spartacus and/or Lysistrata)?

How much RAM will you motherboard accept? How many slots do you have? I have a whole fist-full of 32 mb SIMMS that I'd be happy to post to you.

I need to dig it out of the cupboard/closet and I;ll let you know what it is as I have completely forgotten.

It may be an old topic but i thought i'd put my list in & also bump it up to the top again!

Main work machine (P4 2.6ghz with 1Gb Ram) runs Linux Mint 4, and is superb. It also has another partition on it that i use for testing other distros, currently running Tiny Me, but i'm thinking of just putting antiX on as the main distro, mainly because it'll really fly on a P4. But i REALLY like Mint....

Then i have a 2nd machine which i use for Torrents & downloading at the moment. It's a dual core AMD (4400) with 2 gig Ram, and currently has both Xubuntu (7.10) and OzOs. (I'm trying out 64bit with e17)

Then there's Laptop number 1 which has several partitions. It's a Core 2 Duo machine with 2gig ram and a 100 gig hd. I have XP installed (Need it for Cubase & Reason) and also, .... Tiny Me (Again) which i installed just to see how it would run on this machine). Also Linux Mint 4 and also Xubuntu 7.10 (64 bit version).

Then there's Laptop number 2 which is an old Compaq Armada 700, with 128mb Ram and a 600 Mhz PIII. Currently has Antix Lysistrata (7.1) and also have just installed Arch with OpenBox to get some more "Hands On" with Arch & OpenBox.

Then there's a PIII 1ghz (My main test machine) with 768mb Ram and 30 gig of HD space. Currently has Tiny Me (As you can tell, i like Tiny Me) and also antiX again but also has a spare partition for testing other distros.

I also have an old PIII 600 Mhz eVectra with 128mb Ram that i test lightweight distros on just to see how they'll run, and i can honestly say that both TinyMe & antiX are the BEST & FASTEST distros i have ever put on this machine. They show up almost everything else that i've tried on it, apart from perhaps Puppy & DSL.

Also have several other computers in the house, all mainly running XP because the rest of the family don't have the "Linux/Distro" bug like me.

That's about it..... quite a few there, but i do use them all and change them fairly regularly (Except for the main machine, which, although i change sometimes, i probably change least of all, because it freaks everyone else out when they get a diferent screen everytime they go to check emails etc....)

Looking for another project now...

3 computers:

1: self built desktop, Athlon XP 2700 1GB DDR 400, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, Audigy soundcard, PCChips M848 board, several hard drives, old Pioneer DVD-RW, firmware hacked for region free....massive 2x write speed I built this a few years ago when I was still a victim of MS and originally I ran XP Home on it (legally!!!!). It was a pretty decent games machine at the time. These days it runs Xubuntu and I use it for everything. Sooner or later I'll put something lighter on it like antix but for the moment it just goes on and on working and it has a lot of stuff compiled from source and cvs and it would take me at least a day to make a similar set up on another distro.

2. Lenovo Y400 Centrino Core Duo laptop with 1.5 GB of DDR 668 (I think), 15" widescreen and Intel graphics. It also has the damned and horrible intel HDA ICH7 sound controller with sub woofer and stereo pair. I bought it in Bangkok with no OS installed. It runs Xubuntu 7.04 with default kernel because I couldn't get the sound working with any other distro or even any other kernel, even with compiling alsa. But it runs Beryl easily, is powerful enough for a lot of image editing in gimp, looks and sounds great and I guess I'll keep it until there are no more updates for 7.04.

3. Asus M5N laptop Centrino 1.6GHz 768 MB RAM, 12" screen. It came with XP Pro pre-installed but this one is an extremely Linux compatible machine and now runs Antix on Debian Unstable with a choice of fluxbox or Xfce desktops. Antix is the fastest distro I've used on this machine and works brilliantly. Wireless, suspend, cpu scaling all worked from the install. This is my favourite computer, it's a few years old but I recently bought a 9 cell battery (5 hours life) and I intend keeping this one a long time.
