When I first installed AntiX back in February 2013, I wasted no time at all in upgrading from Sid. Granted, AntiX is excellent as a Debian Testing-based distro. But Sid has been so tamed as of late that it's almost a joke that it's still consider an "unstable'" branch of Debian.

And beside, a Debian Sid-based AntiX is too great of an opportunity not to used.

I have been using antiX Sid since 2006.

same here. i run sid for several years now and i also use packages from experimental. when wheezy is out, the fun begins. from my experience i look out for xorg, perl, python and drivers updates, especially graphic cards. the rest are minor and can be fixed with a simple downgrade.

The last time I mess around with debian experimental, I was using LMDE at the time. Even when I played it safe with "apt-get upgrade", there was an issue with a few missing icons in the menu. And I can not stand a too imperfect menu!

Any recent hiccups? I am pretty certain I had some package conflicts a few weeks ago, so I have been holding off on doing Sid updates for a few weeks, maybe a month or so. Anyone know if "the coast is clear" now? ie, relatively safe to do a Sid dist-upgrade without getting package conflicts.
I actually broke a spare Debian Sid instance a few weeks ago; no networking, so that necessitates a reinstall on that particular system, something I want to avoid on other systems; that one was a test system only, fortunately.

The only issue I'm having is with gtk3 themes. A letest upgrade breaks the default zukitwo theme (some apps do not open eg file-roller to open an xz file), but I installed a new theme and all appears to be ok.
I uploded 3 themes to the antiX repo.

adwaita-themes, gnome-cupertino-themes and mediterranean-themes.

For the moment (6/3/2013), too many critical bug & grave bug reports are enough for me to stay away from Debian Sid repos for the time being. But if anyone is in a good mood to "throw all cautions in the wind", please consider using AntiX instead of Debian.

As a side note, the current Debian Testing (Jessie) is very stable thus far.

And what a difference four months makes! Back in February 2013, Sid was well-behaved. But since May 2013, it's been a total donkey on steroids. Good thing for Synaptic, that's all I can say.

I've been using antiX Core with Sid since the very first Alpha build of Core became available; when was that, 2009-2010 or around that time? Without looking at our builds and forum notes, I cannot remember any more.

But I've been using Sid in one form or another since late 2001; Libranet was the first Debian-based distribution that helped me "tame" Debian. I had a really old one, probably Potato, that I was trying back then, and it wasn't working very well because the drivers were too old. Libranet got me in, then I learned Debian well.

By the time antiX came along, I had been using Debian about five years already, and Sid for most of that time.
