antiX-M8-base1 available for testing. (c 220MB)

This uses the 2.6.27-5 MEPIS kernel. (The 2.6.27-7 one breaks grub install)
Main feature is the inclusion of the sidux meta-package installer, with some custom antiX packages such as kde-lite, kde-full, gnome-lite, xfce-lite etc.
Users can install the base system (fluxbox) and then build from there.

Edit2: Maybe I should explain what the base version is about.
In the past there were requests for MEPIS/antiX to offer a base install ie just enough to get X installed and the rest down to the user. antiX-base does just that. All you get is X, fluxbox, MEPIS tools, leafpad, midori browser, rox, wterm and the sidux meta-installer. The idea is for the user to decide what he/she wants so for example you can install kde-lite and produce your own kde-lite antiX or xfce-antiX just at the click of a button (or two).

i can't test it because of the tg3 driver one suggestion that i have from what i saw, is to change the font color of inxi because is white and the terminal background is white as well. not much but is something. also smxi is not installed. is that is intended ?

What's difference between base1 and test2? Antix M8 test2 also has meta-package installer, and it works great in my box.

silverhat, the base version is very basic. All you get is livecd with X, fluxbox, rox, leafpad, wterm and midori browser, plus MEPIS tools (and meta-installer). You can easily build to what you want. It is a bit like Arch with their base install iso.
So for example if you want a Debian Testing, xfce distro easily and quickly, install antiX-base, use meta-installer to install xfce and there you have it.

I installed Antix-8 base on a Dell Inspiron 7500 (256 M RAM) and it worked great with ethernet. Wireless did not work using the MEPIS default tool but that has always been the case for me.

I installed WICD (using apt-get install since I could not find it in meta-installer) and that worked very well also.

Using meta-installer I installed xfce lite and fvwm-crystal. Both of them worked fine. I never used fvwm-crystal before and found I don't like it but otherwise seems to work.

Also, grub installation worked fine and my already-installed antix 7.5 was not damaged. One thing I noticed about the grub is that it doesn't make clear which one is my antix 7.5 and which one is antix 8. It's a small point, but it can be confusing.

I'll keep testing meta-installer and other things, but so far, everything seems to work great.

All in all, another great product! Congrats to Anti and whoever else helped with this!
