Bonjour,

I have no idea what a LiveBox is, so the following are generic comments.

If you want your antiX system to serve shares so they can be accessed by Windows systems you will usually need to install and configure Samba. That might be challenging for a novice but there are many guides on the web. It is likely you will have to do plenty of research and testing.

If you want your antiX system to access shares that are served from Windows systems you will usually use Connectshares which is provided in antiX-16-Full (otherwise it can be installed from the antiX repo). In addition to the video link mentioned earlier in an earlier post, you might find the guides in the antiX FAQ helpful.
Local copy shipped in antiX-16-Full: Menu-->Help-->antiX FAQ
Web Copy: http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/doc ... index.html

If you want to simply transfer files between your antiX and Windows systems in an ad-hoc manner have a look a Droopy which is shipped in antiX-16-Full. It allows you to upload and download files via a web browser. On the proviso that your other systems have a web browser installed, nothing else is needed on them. A user guide is available both locally and online at the address shown above (for Connectshares). A video is also available: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2I0okt7mIU
Because the video was done for antiX-13 it is slightly out of date. It mentions copying a configuration file into place and creating a directory. In antiX-16-Full these are now done automatically.

My time is extremely limited at present so I might not be able to give further timely information. There are plenty of other helpful members here that might be able to chip in.

Quick response sorry it is 23H in the morning in Paris.
I want a system as light as possible to access Workgroup.

I tried MINT (the HD burned....) but it was possible to access Windows directly.
I tried Toutou linux. It was easy too.

With my poor english level I do not understant videos.
It's also difficult for me to understand what you say but I am tired, il will read again tomorrw.

If it's too difficult to access Workgroud an exchange files, no matter, i can use an USB key or my server (Filezilla works).
To exchange via the network is not essential to me.

Info : The Livebox is an Internet box to connect to the internet. It gives wifi, works like a router used to connect all computers on local network.

Thank's a lot 8)

As you already know, being lightweight is a primary goal of antiX. It also gives the user a huge amount of choice in the way it is set up and used. For example, installing heavyweight apps can stop antiX being lightweight and make your system run slowly.

Partnering antiX with lightweight apps is usually the best way to obtain the best performance from your system. The apps shipped with antiX have been chosen to do this. These let you do the same things as more heavyweight apps that might have names that you are familiar with.

I am not familiar with either of those so the following is not specific to them.

Many other distros do not focus on being lightweight. Instead they may prefer to concentrate on other priories. For example, the look and feel of their distro, or expecting a specific desktop environment or file manager is used. They will often pre-configure their distro with facilities that many users will not require or use. They simply accept the fact that their distro places a high demand on your system resources. In such cases the use of heavyweight apps is seen as the norm.

With antiX, it is usually possible to do whatever daily tasks can be done with a more heavyweight distro, but you should consider the benefits of doing them in the lightweight way rather than the heavyweight way of other distros.

I agree with you. Mint is heavy. I iinstalled it on an old tower. The HD burned ! ! it was very old !
TOUTOU is the lightest distro, difficult to install for a newbee. It is really ugly ! !

ANTIX is ideal for my old THINKPAD T42 ;-) Fast and beautiful.

Il will look for a forum in french to explain me how to have a network access to WORKGROUP.

Thank's a lot 8)

If the server you mention serves files to your LAN and your other computers access shares on that server, then Connectshares is a good way to do it in antiX. This seems likely because you must specify the workgroup name when setting up Connectshares.

One possible way to obtain help is to find someone who can communicate in both French and English. In that way they will be able to read the user guide for Connectshares (English) and explain it to you in your native language (French).
http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/doc ... hares.html

The guide shows you how to do it step by step. I recall other novices have used it successfully to access shares in antiX from a separate server system on their LAN.

Thank's. I will read that later. I have many things to do today.
I think I can understand, but, it' easy for me when the text is short... if it is long I discouraged me !

My server is a FTP connexion. I use it for backup any things and for my website ! So if I need to transfert files from Computer 1 to computer 2, I can put the files on the server...
Upload => download. It's not very fast ! !

I said in an other Forum post, I use my old Laptop for writing a book. A lot of applications I use are inline on my server (Wiki, somme personal applications I developped with PHP...)
So I do not need many aps on the laptop. Wifi is very important ( I need to reach my inline apps everywhere !). I works fine. 8)

I do not know some one who speaks english and french (and linux ! !)

So long
Thank's for the link

Just info filling for this thread

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70239

Puppy is a larger world wide community than AntiX.
But even Linuxquestions.org.
Which is a world wide Slackware community.

Conducts their forum advice and questions in english only. Sorry. It is what it is.

I know using linux can be hard. Even harder when one has to deal with language difficulties also. I don't envy you your hard ships. So all I ca do is suggest maybe the below.

Might help you , might not. Below are Linux User Groups in France. Maybe one group lives near you and meets for coffee once a week and help others out.

http://www.linuxwaves.com/linuxlinks/Li ... ps/France/

Other wise. You can wait till a AntiX french speaker that is knowledgeable about our distro
comes back to you on your question.

At least us USA dudes and others try to help. In what little ways we can.
Too bad no french youtube videos made by french speakers. Like dolphin oracle
works very very very hard at to make on a regular basis and is valued very highly here .
Is provided.

Hey,
Cool but I really understand a half of what you said ! ! Too long phrases.
No matter, you are here and give responses to me. Really great for me.

I have submitted some questions to DEBIAN forum... in french.
This forum takes 2 days to give any response... but very helpfull.

Not important. I have the minimum I need in my antix laptop ;-)
Also I have a big computer (Windows 7) with 4 hard disk, 6 G of RAM...
I hope I will install Linux on it in 2 years.

I'am 63 and stop working now to try to write a book and lurn Linux. (I was a Web developper for 15 years).
Before I was a musician than a sound ingeneer.

Linux and PHP now only for pleasure to learn more ! 8)

I will get a look to your links tomorrow.
It's 23 H in the evening in Paris. I'am tired.

So long man :)

Root owns that directory
ls -l /var/www/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 31 18:47 html

Personally in terminal
type: mkdir ~/Web
type: su root
type: ROOT PASSWORD
type: leafpad /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf
change from:
Code:
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/
        <Directory /var/www/html/>

to:
Code:
DocumentRoot /home/USERNAME/Web
        <Directory /home/USERNAME/Web>

save and close.
type: service apache2 restart.
type: exit
type: exit

Then as a regular user open "Web" folder and put your php/html files there.

For Share... Assuming "livebox workgroup" = smb share...
try as root
type: mkdir /media/livebox
type: mount –t cifs LIVEBOX_ADDRESS:/LIVEBOX_SHARE /media/livebox –o username=LIVEBOX_SHARE_USERNAME,workgroup=LIVEBOX_WORKGROUP

I do not have a share at the moment to give exact working commands.
